Why do I need a website?
The internet has become the fastest way to search for information and that includes finding businesses and services like yours. These days people expect to see a website and if a business doesn’t have one, they may start to question how genuine that business is.
A website gives you the best opportunity to connect with potential customers by explaining in unlimited detail the services or products you offer.
I still need convincing…
That’s fine, we wouldn’t expect you to invest in something without knowing the benefits, so here are more reasons why should have a site:
- Connect with customers 24/7
A website keeps your sales momentum going non-stop. Customers can visit your business at a time that is convenient to them and make contact with you via email then and there. - Up to date information
A business is always changing to suit market trends and customer needs. Information on a website can be changed easily, making it far cheaper and more efficient than changes to printed marketing documents. - It saves you money
Once the initial costs are paid for, a website will start saving you money. For example, print and postage can be replaced with email and downloadable documents/brochures. If you’re a retailer, an e-commerce site saves on premises overheads. - Keeps you up with the competition
Chances are you’ll be in a competitive market and your competitors will more than likely have a website. By watching what the competition do on their site, you can better it on yours and grab the market share.
Okay, but can I afford one?
Can you afford not to have one? The internet is not going away, in fact, it’s becoming more relevant with each passing hour. Even the smallest businesses are investing in websites and because everyone is using the web as a means to provide a service or sell a product, set up costs are being driven down. Getting a website up and running isn’t as expensive as you might think.

I’ve already got a website, I don’t need another one
Fantastic a good website can help market your products and services 24 hours a day 7 days a week, but make sure your website fulfils the following key criteria.
1. Does your website look ‘current’ and give a professional reflection of your company/ services/ products?
Your website is the place where you present your company and tell a story to the world. Checking a company’s website or blog is a great barometer of how we should perceive the quality of the organisation/ services.
Content matters, but so does design. If you have a website but it’s a couple of years old then it may well look outdated and out of step newer designs or functionalities. Websites are key to a successful business and it’s crucial to convey a professional image for your company whilst also ensuring as many people as possible can access your site
2. Can your website be viewed by mobile devices e.g. tablets and mobile phones?
Aside from the aesthetics of how your site looks a key issue to consider is, can your site actually be ‘seen’ by users? Did you know that mobile devices such as tablets and phones account for 25% of all web traffic and that figure is almost 1000% up on the previous 12 months. Websites that aren’t kept up to date risk becoming incompatible and therefore effectively invisible to a large portion of this traffic.
3. Can your website be viewed in all the major web browsers?
Is your website compatible with the browsers such as Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox? They are all constantly changing and evolving and if you don’t keep your website updated you may find visitors can access your website or content. This is a far more common problem than you might expect.
4. Does your website appear on page 1 of the major search engines for your priority search terms?
On the face of it you may have a fantastic looking website but does it have a powerful engine underneath the bonnet that gets you found across all the major search engines?
If you have answered no or don’t know to at least one of the above questions then you need to review how your website is performing. You may find it is time to upgrade your website or simply give it an update or re-design. This is where IMT can help.
