Pay Per Click

What’s all the fuss about PPC?
Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing is a proven method of driving targeted visitors to your website. When you set up a PPC campaign, visitors can start to arrive on your pages almost immediately whereas other forms of marketing can take time to generate interest in your business.
So how does PPC work?
All the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) display listings in addition to their ‘organic’ search results.

You will have seen these listings in the sidebar or above the ‘organic’ results when you’ve searched for a specific word, phrase or topic:
- In Google they are called “Ads”
- In Bing “Sponsored sites” and,
- In Yahoo “Sponsored results”
PPC works using keywords. You, as the service provider or seller, bid on keywords that will target a specific customer base so when someone types those keywords into a search engine, your listing will appear.
Can you give me an example?
Okay, let’s say you sell vitamin supplements. A potential customer types “vitamin supplements” into either Google, Yahoo or Bing. They are then presented with ‘organic results’ relevant to the search as well as listings/ads. By you having a high-profile PPC listing in place, the customer sees your ad, clicks on it and is directed to your website.
As the advertiser, you only pay when the person searching actually clicks on your ad – hence the name Pay Per Click.
And how can it benefit me?
PPC can increase traffic to your site but, if badly managed, you could end up spending a small fortune and having little to show for it. It is possible to self-manage a PPC campaign but that can be time-consuming, particularly if you don’t have the necessary skills to make it work from the start.
